AECT Standards

The standards adopted in July 2012 resulted from a five-year process of development and vetting to have standards that are derived from the definition of the field published in 2008.

“Educational technology is the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources.”

Introduction

Welcome to my e-portfolio, a culmination of my journey in the Master of Science in Learning Design and Technology program, and a demonstration of my commitment to excellence in educational technology. Through this e-portfolio, I aim to showcase how my work aligns with the five AECT standards—Content Knowledge, Content Pedagogy, Learning Environments, Professional Knowledge and Skills, and Research. Each artifact within this portfolio reflects my dedication to advancing my understanding and practice in these key areas, supporting my academic and professional objectives.

AECT Standard 1: Content Knowledge My e-portfolio demonstrates a strong foundation in the theoretical and practical applications of educational technologies. From designing instructional materials to managing resources effectively, I have applied the principles of content knowledge in various projects. This includes the use of the ADDIE model to develop targeted, impactful learning experiences. By presenting instructional materials I’ve created, I highlight my ability to assess, select, and manage technological resources that enhance learning outcomes and align with ethical standards in educational technology.

AECT Standard 2: Content Pedagogy Throughout the program, I have developed my skills as a reflective practitioner, integrating both pedagogy and technology to optimize learning experiences. My e-portfolio includes examples of content I designed and implemented, demonstrating effective content pedagogy tailored to specific learner needs. These artifacts showcase my understanding of applying appropriate educational processes and technologies to enhance learning and performance. Furthermore, I reflect on my work to continually assess and improve my instructional methods, ensuring they are inclusive and adaptable to diverse learning communities.

AECT Standard 3: Learning Environments One of my primary goals in this program has been to create and evaluate effective learning environments that support diverse learners. My e-portfolio features projects where I crafted instructional design deliverables backed by research-based principles and tailored learning experiences for various contexts. I demonstrate my ability to make sound decisions in selecting processes and resources that create optimal learning conditions. Additionally, I have embedded ethical considerations, such as respect for copyright and safety, within my learning environments, fostering an inclusive and supportive atmosphere for all learners.

AECT Standard 4: Professional Knowledge and Skills The collaborative nature of my learning experience is evident throughout this e-portfolio, showcasing projects that involved teamwork with peers and subject matter experts. I have developed skills in leading and supporting others in technology-enhanced instruction, while engaging in reflective practices that assess the impact of my instructional design on learners. My work demonstrates a commitment to ethical behavior and respect for diverse learning needs, a critical component of this standard. Each project reflects my growth in both leadership and collaborative practice, as well as my ability to evaluate and adjust based on feedback.

AECT Standard 5: Research The program has instilled in me a solid foundation in research methodologies essential to advancing educational technology. My e-portfolio includes examples of how I have applied research strategies to address challenges and improve instructional practices. I have integrated research-based practices to assess and refine my methods, ensuring they align with both current theory and ethical guidelines. This commitment to research-driven instruction supports my academic goal of continually improving my approach to educational technology and my contributions to the field.

In summary, my e-portfolio is a comprehensive demonstration of my proficiency across the AECT standards, and it reflects my academic aspirations within the Learning Design and Technology program. Each section highlights my dedication to creating, implementing, and evaluating educational experiences that foster meaningful and ethical learning.
