Valerie Jantomaso E-Portfolio

Educational Background My academic journey began at Florida Gulf Coast University, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2013. This foundation enabled me to explore various clinical settings, where I quickly recognized the importance of structured, impactful education for nursing professionals. Motivated by this insight, I pursued a Master of Science in Learning Design and Technology with a concentration in E-Learning Design and Development at the University of South Florida, set to be completed in December 2024. This program has equipped me with advanced skills in instructional design and the use of the ADDIE model to create meaningful learning experiences tailored to healthcare professionals.

Work Experience Throughout my career, I have held diverse positions in critical care and education across intensive care and emergency settings. Currently, I work as a Nursing Professional Development Specialist at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center, where I design and implement professional development opportunities for critical care teams. My responsibilities include developing competencies for our Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) program, coordinating Life Support certification courses, and managing e-learning courses within our learning management system. I also led the curriculum development for the Adult Critical Care Specialty Fellowship program, creating specialized learning pathways for healthcare staff.

Earlier in my career, I gained extensive experience in emergency and intensive care units, including trauma and cardiovascular ICU. These roles exposed me to the complexities of critical care and reinforced my commitment to quality patient care through advanced education.

Learning Experiences from the Master’s Program My Master’s program has been a turning point in my professional journey, enhancing my ability to create impactful, engaging content for nursing professionals. Courses in e-learning design, instructional strategies, and technology integration have broadened my perspective and honed my skills. Collaborating with diverse classmates taught me the importance of creating inclusive learning content that resonates across backgrounds and specialties. This training has empowered me to bring innovative instructional techniques to my current role, especially through online learning modules and streamlined course development.

This program has had a profound impact on my current role, where I use instructional design principles to enhance professional development offerings at Lakeland Regional Health. The skills I’ve gained have allowed me to streamline and improve our e-learning courses, which support our organization’s goals of consistent, high-quality patient care.

Career Goals and Vision for the Future Looking ahead, my goal is to expand my role in nursing education and help bridge the gap between clinical practice and educational technology. I aim to lead initiatives that implement learning design innovations across healthcare systems, contributing to a future where nursing professionals are continuously supported and empowered to deliver exceptional care.

Thank you for visiting my e-portfolio. I am excited to share my journey and vision as I continue to grow and make an impact in the nursing profession.
